'Despicable': Manchester police search for men who stole from a man as he had a stroke

The men stole money from the man and from his house.

POLICE IN GREATER Manchester are appealing for witnesses after two men posing as good Samaritans stole from a man as he had a stroke.

The 67-year-old man collapsed on Phillips Avenue, Bolton at about 10pm last Friday as he was walking home from choir practice.

Two men came across the man and helped him to get home where his wife called him an ambulance.

The two men then departed before the ambulance arrived.

Despite doing a seemingly good deed, it was discovered that the men had stolen the man’s phone and bank cards from his pocket, as well as cash that was in his house.

Detective Constable Phil Unsworth, of GMP’s Bolton borough, said:

“This was an absolutely despicable theft of a man who was having a stroke in the street.

“It’s almost unbelievable that anybody would stoop so low as to steal from somebody as they were stricken by such a serious medical episode.

If you have any information that you believe can help us find the people responsible then I would urge you to contact police.”
